    Overview of TAROM and Baggage Policies

    TAROM is Romania’s national flag carrier that was launched back in 1954 and operates as an airline member of SkyTeam. Flights offered by the company are performed between Bucharest and other locations throughout Europe and the Middle East.

    As for services offered by TAROM, these vary depending on fares and class: either Economy or Business. The general guidelines regarding TAROM baggage policy are the following:

    • Up to 1 cabin bag and 1 personal item can be transported by you for free, provided their combined weight does not exceed 8 kg;

    • Checked baggage allowance differs from ticket type and class:

      • Usually 23 kg per piece for Economy class passengers;

      • And 32 kg per piece for those travelling in Business class;

    • Higher amounts of allowances, as well as greater weights of luggage per piece, are available for Business Class passengers.

    • The maximum overall dimension of baggage should not be more than 158 cm.

    • Additional charges will be applied to overweight/large luggage or additional pieces.

    Overall, TAROM baggage allowance is fairly flexible, but it’s always worth checking your ticket details before you travel.

    The total allowance for one carry-on and one personal item was reduced to 8 kg (down from 10 kg previously).

    TAROM typically has quite strict regulations regarding cabin baggage.

    TAROM Cabin Bag Rules

    Here’s what you need to know about how many cabin bags you can take on board when flying with TAROM, based on the current TAROM baggage policy.

    Cabin Luggage

    Regardless of the ticket class, you are entitled to take one cabin baggage item and one personal item.

    • Main cabin bag:

      • Standard size limit: 55 x 35 x 25 cm (length x width x height).

      • On smaller aircraft (such as ATR), the bag must be smaller in size, around 35 x 30 x 20 cm.

    • Personal item:

      • It may include: A handbag, a laptop bag, a briefcase, or a camera bag.

      • Just make sure it fits underneath the seat in front of you in the cabin.

    • Total weight limit:

      • The combined weight of your cabin bag and personal item must not exceed 8 kg (about 18 lbs).

    How to Travel With Carry-on Only (And Avoid Checking a Bag)

    A simple tip: go for something compact and functional, such as the CabinZero’s 28L Backpack. This item is made to help you travel light without having to worry about the TAROM extra baggage cost.

    How it works for carry-ons:

    • Ready as an underseat bag: Its dimensions of 39 x 29.5 x 20 cm allow for easy fitting in most aircraft's underneath seats.

    • Light in weight: Starting at only about 600 g, you can be sure that you won't be carrying unnecessary weight.

    • Laptop-compatible: Allows you to carry up to a 15.6-inch laptop, along with the laptop storage pocket, which is retractable when not used.

    • Water-resistant: Prevents any moisture damage to your belongings from rain, accidents, or even leaking luggage compartments.

    • Added peace of mind: Includes an integrated Okoban tracker tag, giving you a better chance to locate your luggage should it get lost.

    Packing advice: Use packing cubes for organisation, they help surprisingly much.

    TAROM Checked Baggage Allowance

    As regards the TAROM checked baggage price, the airlines are rather accommodating. You should know that even in the Economy, you usually have a chance to check a bag without any extra fees.

    • Economy Class:

      • 1 bag of weight up to 23 kg / 51 lbs.

      • Light fares do not provide checked baggage.

    • Business Class:

      • Up to 2 pieces of baggage (each weighing 32 kg / 71 lbs).

      • On some destinations and tariffs, you may enjoy up to 3 bags.

    FAQs

    1. What Is the Baggage Allowance for TAROM?

    Normally, passengers are allowed to carry one cabin baggage and one personal baggage that weigh up to 8 kg in total, as well as one piece of checked baggage. For passengers travelling in Economy (except for Light fares), one piece of checked baggage will weigh up to 23 kg, whereas in Business class, it will be 32 kg per piece. As for size limits, checked baggage should not exceed 158 cm in total dimensions, and cabin bags must be within 55 x 40 x 20 cm on Boeing aircraft or 35 x 30 x 20 cm on ATR 72 aircraft.

    2. What Do I Do When My Luggage Is Lost?

    TAROM lost baggage policy explains that once your baggage is lost, it is advisable to notify TAROM immediately. You should submit a claim letter that provides information on your bag and its contents. In this letter, include the following items: your ticket, any excess baggage receipt (if applicable), your baggage tag, and your file reference number. This claim letter can be submitted either via email (lostbg@tarom.ro) or postal mail.

    3. What Happens if My Luggage Is Over 23 KG?

    If you have chosen the Economy fare and your baggage weighs more than the allowable 23 kg, then you will have to pay an overweight charge for that additional baggage. Bags between 23 kg and 24 kg are sometimes taken onboard without extra charge. For weights of 24 kg and above, fees usually apply. If you’re travelling in Business Class, you usually won’t be charged, as the allowance goes up to 32 kg per bag.

    4. Does TAROM Weigh Carry-on Bags?

    Yes, they do indeed scrutinise this aspect closely. There is an 8kg weight restriction on your cabin baggage and personal items. Your bags could even be weighed right at the boarding gate. In case you exceed this weight limit, you may be asked to place the bag in the hold and pay the excess baggage fee (approximately €75).

    Wrapping Up

    It becomes easier to plan your travels with TAROM once you know what the TAROM baggage allowance is. You should always be sure about the baggage policy for your particular fare. With the CabinZero 28L backpack, which is approved as underseat luggage, you will not have any problems with the strict cabin baggage rules of airlines like TAROM.
